Enter a project in its second phase and design a usable user interface and information architecture for an excruciatingly complex financial analysis feature set. The challenge for the first-ever online application suite was to ensure that the architecture and UI is not only scalable, but can be eventually handed off to the internal development staff for future enhancements.
Racking up thousands of Acela miles between the Fortune 500’s Bedford, MA and Manhattan offices Visual Activity worked in collaboration between the teams to create a set of user interface templates that solidified the architecture, visual cues, and page real estate distribution for the first two major milestones of the application suite.
This engagement brought a wealth of experience in financial data management to the team in a short timeline, and allowed the teams in Boston and New York the opportunity to focus on the technical development rather than the user interface. A set of templates and designs were given to the development team who are in the final stages of creating the next milestone under their own power.
This engagement is a shining example of how involving the key client users in the discovery and UI paper prototyping process can not only result in a better, more usable end-product, but can also re-ignite the end-user’s enthusiasm in a massive development project representing a significant corporate investment.
The UI design and innovative utilization of screen real estate demonstrates how the need to display hundreds of real-time financial data points can be brought harmoniously into a single, usable, technically achievable interface. Due to our confidentiality agreement, and because this project does not have a public-facing UI, no screen shots are available.
